Compostable & Biodegradable Materials
Kingsway Printers have developed and sourced a range of new environmentally friendly filmic and paper based products which are both compostable and biodegradable.
As more companies are finding environmental issues of greater importance this new range of materials is proving to be a big hit. Demand has been high as these organic and environmentally friendly materials help with environmental policy and waste reduction schemes.
Environmental terms like compostable and biodegradable are common terms often misused an issue which is resolved by the European Standard EN13432. According to this standard a compostable material must have the following charcteristics:
  • Biodegradability: According to EN14046 this property is quantitatively measured. The acceptable level being 90% which must be reached in less than 6 months.
  • Disintegrability: Less than 10% of the initial mass must be over 2mm3 after 3 months composting with organic waste.
  • Absence of any negative effects on the composting process.
  • Low levels of heavy metals and absence of negative effects on the quality of the compost.
Each of the above points are necessary for the definition of ‘compostability’ but these alone are not sufficient. A biodegradable material is not necessarily compostable because it must also break up during one composting cycle. There again, a material which breaks up, over one composting cycle, into microscopic pieces that are not totally biodegradable, is not compostable.

Waste Reduction Pallet facility (WRP) - New Spring '08
Environmentally Friendly Logo
Kingsway Printers is committed to continually improving the environmental impact of the print industry. The development of the WRP system is an example of such an improvement. The system serves to dramatically reduce packing waste, improving the Carbon Footprint for both supplier and customer bringing with it substantial savings in terms of cost.
New for 2008 Kingsway Printers has implemented the new Packaging Waste Reduction system. The system provides extra security for the product in transit as a by product of the environmental advantages it offers.
The system reduces the need for costly packaging and filling materials reducing production costs, and costs incurred by the disposal and recycling of such materials. For a graphical representation see the information on the WRP system within the News Events section of this site.

Multiply (Peel & Read/Reveal/Re-Seal/Dry Peel) Labels
We can produce multiply labels in the following formats on both paper and synthetic substrates. All the variants are available in up to 8 colours:
Peel & Read/Reveal/Re-Seal: these labels are double ply and give the opportunity for additional information to be put on the bottom layer as well as on the reverse of the top layer. They can be printed up to a maximum of five colours on the face of both layers and single colour on the reverse of the top label.
Dry Peel: an ideal use for vouchers, tokens or keep sheets these labels are as above but when peeled off, show no signs of residual adhesive at all on the base layer and therefore perform ideally for post use. Once again they can be produced in five colours to both face surfaces and a single colour to the reverse face of the top layer.
Clear Multiply Labels - New Spring '08
We have now developed a new concept in Peel & Read/Reseal Labels which are produced onto clear material for use on clear PET & Glass containers.
The method used to produce these labels is from very limited sources within the UK.
These labels can be used where additional information is required on pack/product but space is at a premium.
Labels have been developed and tested to be a proven success at minimising costs where two separate labels would have been required and also can be applied to clear packs/bottles and containers!
They provide additional space on the product for showing recipes, cooking instructions, nutritional information or other products within ranges, the list is endless!

Clear on Clear (No Look) Labels
Kingsway Printers have vast experience in the production of clear on clear (no look) labels where the end user is looking for the look of a printed container, jar or bottle. By producing these on a clear synthetic liner, higher speeds of application and an increased number of labels per reel result in reduced production line downtime.
Clear on clear labels can be produced in up to 8 colours and can include both foil and lamination if required.
Lean Films for Clear on Clear Labels - New Spring '08
Environmentally Friendly Logo
We now have available a full range of ‘lean’ films. These can be in white or clear and have reduced callipers to reduce the weight of packaging in line with Government targets. Even the minimum of changes to either face of liners give a result of more than a 1% reduction in final waste figures.
What’s more is that all of the films are recyclable and therefore more eco-friendly than standard products.
Once again these films are available in up to 8 colours including foil and lamination facilities.
If you wish to help our environment then give us a call now with your requirements and we can provide a bespoke quote giving significant reductions in packaging waste.

Labelstock Facility
Kingsway Printers Labelstock facility is a service which can be very beneficial on many levels ranging from cost to storage space. By ordering for example a whole years supply of labels in one order the printing costs are greatly reduced, Kingsway Printers then stores the surplus labels until required. They can then be delivered on a Just In Time basis by next day courrier.
In this way labels are stored securely and with regular stock lists, trend and usage analysis the customer is ensured that they never run out of labels saving on production line downtime and improving logistics.
Enhancing the savings cost wise, cash flow can be dramatically improved by the price stability the system offers as labels are only invoiced as they are called-off.
Kingsway Printers stores the clients labels in a custom built storage facility until call-off is made. This can be of great advantage to the client freeing up valuable production space. The labels are stored in a controlled environment negating stock spoilage.
The Labelstock Facility is available on 3, 6, or 12 month contracts for further information please contact us on 01472 211122 or by emailing enquiries@kingswayprinters.com
